(ISSN 2356-0894, e-ISSN 2356-0630) is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published biannually (January-June and July-December) by the Center for Gender and Child Studies (Pusat Studi Gender dan Anak - PSGA) at the State Islamic University (UIN) of Imam Bonjol Padang. (Previously known as IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang).
History & Development:
Launched in 2011 by the Center for Women Studies (a Non-Structural Division at IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang) under ISSN 2089-5860. In 2014, publication transitioned to the newly established Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA), adopting new print and e-ISSNs (2356-0894 and 2356-0630) and an open-access online platform (OJS). Significant quality enhancements were implemented from Volume VII Number 1 (2017), including format standardization to A4 and expansion to nine articles per issue, with >70% external contributions.

Kafaah emphasizes gender analysis that integrates:
Islamic discourse with contemporary global issues (technology, environment, health, digital society, public policy).
Local wisdom from Muslim societies or faith-based communities as a critical lens to evaluate Western gender theories.
Transdisciplinarity, utilizing approaches from Islamic studies, social sciences, humanities, and policy studies.
Scope:
Kafaah welcomes original research on the following themes, particularly within developing Muslim societies:
Alternative Gender Theories: Critiques of Western gender theories from Islamic or Eastern cultural perspectives.
Gender and Muslim Diversity: Studies on women, LGBTQ+, and non-binary individuals within diverse Muslim communities.
Gender in the Digital Ecosystem: The role of social media, online fatwas, Islamic fintech (financial technology), and digital platforms in shaping gender relations and identities.
Gender and Environment: Islamic ecofeminism, women in faith-based environmental movements, and the gendered impacts of climate change in Muslim societies.
Participatory Qualitative Methodologies: Field research engaging religious communities and innovative methods .
