Althea Medical Journal is a peer-reviewed and open access journal that focuses on promoting important research in medical and health sciences related to aging-related diseases, wellness, and healthy lifestyle which includes neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, immune system disorders, and musculoskeletal disorders.
Aging-related diseases are illnesses and conditions that occur more frequently in people as they get older, meaning age is a significant risk factor. Examples of aging-related disease are cardiovascular diseases, strokes, hypertension, cancer, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and hearing loss.
Wellness is the state of being in good physical and mental health. These include social connectedness, exercise, nutrition, sleep and mindfulness.
Healthy lifestyle is a lifestyle which includes activities and habits that encourage the development of total physical, mental, and spiritual fitness, and which reduces the risk of major illness. Healthy activities and habits include regular exercise; a balanced, nutritious diet; adequate sleep and relaxation; abstaining from smoking and taking nonessential drugs; and moderating the intake of alcohol.
